Bureaucracy at Rest

I'm not going to mean-mouth Michigan's bureaucracy, but only because they aren't today's aggravation. 

I talked with my oldest child earlier today, because she has been waiting to be summoned before the Board of Licensing for an interview before she could regain her lapsed license to practice Occupational Therapy.

She is a conscientious, hard-working woman, and has been studying since the time she decided to practice OT again.  The written test is only given at long intervals of time for some reason, and you must also meet with the board---scheduled at other long intervals.

So I phoned her today to see if the interview had finally taken place.  She laughed.  Oh yes, she'd met with them.  A ten minute chat, which had been dreaded for months. (She was told it would be an hour of grueling examination.)  Any hard questions? 

Well, she said, it was like summoning a master chef for examination, and asking him to name three ingredients in chocolate chip cookies.  We both laughed.

Now her approved paperwork sits somewhere in Limboland waiting for a signature.  This will take a month or two.  I won't tell you where she's living, to protect innocent agencies who perform their duties in a more timely manner. 

Thankfully, they aren't living in a state of unemployment waiting for her credentials so she can seek a job in her field.   Maybe you can only wait and stew while things move so slowly.  But you don't have to do it in silence!
