This "cinnamon bun" is a featured attraction at the Hilltop Restaurant in L'Anse (pronounced Lahnse-one syllable). My coffee mug is included for scale purposes.
Obviously, it is a shared project, and most of them are sold "to go", I should think. Almost all of the items on the menu are served in portion sizes that are two meal size for me.
When I ordered a Denver sandwich for lunch on Saturday, it covered the whole plate. It was delicious, but I cut it in fourths and ate half of it. I sat outside later and watched the people come and go. Some of them were two chair customers and they must eat at the Hilltop fairly frequently, and clean their plates. The American dream.
Another good restaurant is downtown and not quite as "famous" as the Hilltop. It's called the Night Owl, and they bake their own bread too. I had whole wheat on my sandwich and it was DE--licious! L'Anse must be the home-made bread capital of the UP, because both of these busy places bake their own bread, rolls, and pies. Good thing it's a couple hours away from my house. That's all I can say!
Holy Smokes! That's a cinnamon bun! Two chair customers, huh? I've seen those folks before, but I just might be that way too if I lived in the U.P. I don't think I'd get out of the house much once winter set in :)

While I LOVE the taste of sweet breakfast pastries, I simply CANNOT eat them for breakfast. Too much sugar and they make me feel sick.

I know what you mean. I have a weakness for freshly baked breads and buns and coffee cakes...I simply have no willpower over that stuff and I'm glad there's nothing even close to it here.
ReplyDeleteTo continue the theme - Holy Smokes that thing is huge! I'll have to put it on my next list of places to stop in the UP. We found Bucks Restaurant in Ishpeming, MI where you can find all you can eat white fish...mmm the best. Now all they need is that cinnamon bun.
